Details About Azan In English
As we all know, Azan is the only sound that is called 24 hours a day all over the world. Some non-Muslim brothers and sisters are such that they consider Azaan to be Namaz. But they do not know that the purpose of Azaan is to call people towards Namaz.
Why is Akbar’s name mentioned in Azan?
Some people, when they listen to Azaan, wonder why Muslims call Emperor Akbar. This is because the Azaan is recited in Arabic and the word. ‘Akbar’ in Arabic means ‘Great’ or ‘Great’. So here we need to understand that when we say ‘Allahu Akbar’ in Azaan it means: โAllah is the greatest.”
This means that here Allah is being called great and not Mugahl Akbar is being addressed.
How and when did Azan start?
Nowadays Muslims recite Azan loudly through microphones and loudspeakers.
While in the time of Prophet Mohammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, Azaan was recited in a loud voice by climbing on a high place.
When the mosque was built in Madina Munawwara to offer prayers, the need was felt at that time to gather people for prayers, so that all are present together at the right time to offer prayers.
Then Rasoolullah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) discussed this with his Sahaabah, and four propositions emerged:
- It was said that any flag can be used during prayers.
- The fire should be lit in a high place.
- Blow the bugle like the Jews.
- Bells should be rung like Christians.
At the same time, Hazrat Umar Raziallahu Anhu said, why not send the one who calls for Namaz?
Hazrat Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam liked this opinion and ordered Bilal Raziallahu Anhu to “get up and recite the Azaan”.
That’s why Azaan started on the same day and will continue like this till judgment day. In Islam, Hazrat Bilal Raziallahu Anhu became the first person to give Azaan of Islam.
