“Attahiyatu lillahi vassalavaatu wattayyibatu, assalamu alaika ayyuhan nabiyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu, assalamu alaina wa ala ibadillahhis saliheen, ashhadu alla ilaha illallahu wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu”

Attahiyat in English Translation

The translation for the wording of the Attahiyat above is given:

“All the compliments are for Allah and all the prayers and all the good things (are for Allah).

Peace be on you, O Prophet, and Allah’s mercy and blessings (are on you). And peace be on us and on the good (pious) worshipers of Allah.

I testify that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Apostle.”

التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلّٰهِ، وَالصَّلَوْاتُ، وَالطَّيِّباتُ، السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا ​​النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللّٰهِ الصَّالِحِيْنَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللّٰهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُوْلُهُ

What is Attahiyat Means in English?

The Meaning of Tashahhud in Arabic (تَشَهُّد‎) is “Testimony [of faith]”, it is also known as Attahiyat (ٱلتَّحِيَّات‎), the ‘greetings’.

When we recite Attahiyat?

This is part of the prayer where the person kneels down on the ground facing the Qibla, glorifies Allah, greets the Messenger, and welcomes Allah’s righteous people, which is followed by two testimonials.

The correct way of reciting Attahiyyat in Namaz

When you are offering namaz and in the Last Rakat of Namaz, when you are sitting in Attahiyat facing the Qibla, you have to recite Attahiyat at that time, and when you reach Ashhadu Allah {la},

you have to circle the middle finger and thumb of the right hand on Kalima La and raise the Kalima (martyrdom) finger in such a way that both the thumb and the belly of the middle biggest finger should be together and when you come to illallahu, then lower the finger.

If you are offering Namaz consisting of two Rakats, then after reciting Attahiyat, recite Durood Sharif and Dua E Masura and do Salam.

If you are offering Namaz consisting of three or four Rakats, then after saying Allahu Akbar, stand up.

Some important things or Hadiths of Attahiyat

Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: –

When a man of Allah recites tashahdud or attahiyat’s dua ‘wa ‘ala ‘ibadillahis-saliheen’ during Namaz,

So he sent Salato Salaam to all the pious servants of Allah, whether on earth or in the skies,

and after that, the righteous servant of Allah recites Ash-hadhu alla ilaha illallahu wa ash-hadhu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu, after that he can pray whatever he wants.

✍️ Hadith No. 1

It is narrated by Abdullah bin Mas’ud: “The Messenger of Allah taught us that when we sit for every two rak’ahs we should say,” At-tahaiyatu lillah, was-salawatu wattaiyebaat.

Assalamu Alaika Ayyuhan-nabiyu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barkatuhu, Assalamu Alaina wa Ala Ibdillahis-Salihin, Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah wa ashadu anna Muhammadan Abduhu wa Rasuluh.

Abdullah ibn Abbas said: “The Messenger of Allah will teach us tashah-hud as he teaches us the Qur’an.

They will say, “At-tahiyatu, al-mubarakatu, as-salawatu at-tayyibatu lillah, Salamun Alaika, Ayyuhan-Nabiyu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu, Salamun Alaina wa Ala Ibadal lallahis-Salihin.

Ashhadu an la ilaha illallahu, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluh.
